The Inhaler

I inhale my food.  I can down a bowl of food in record time. For some reason this worries mom and to help  alleviate some of her fear of bloat I eat out of a metal Brake Fast Bowl.

For almost 2 years I have used this bowl to help me eat my kibble slowly.  Mom says it was worth every penny that she spent for it.

I think moms have too much to worry about.

  1. That bowl looks very nice and I have considered getting it.

Norbert bloated last summer and it was the scariest experience of my life. The thing is that he is a very slow eater so we dont know what happened. The vet at the animal medical center in NYC (a really great hospital that saved his life) told me that pretty much any dog can bloat at any time. Its more common in large dogs too, and older large dogs particularly (Norbert is 9). They gave Norbert a gastropexy (stomach stapling) along with his surgery to prevent future bloat. I will likely do that for any large breed dogs I get in the future.

  2. That is a great idea! Bloat is definitely very scary. My kids eat much of their kibble from those rolling things like the Kong Wobbler, but they do eat their other stuff too fast. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to slow them down.

  3. That is a great idea! I soak Fred and Glorias' kibble for a bit before I give it to them to prevent bloat.

  5. In response to your questions on Norbert's bloat. He recovered very quickly for a dog his age. We have a lot of steps and he came home from the hospital after 3 days and nights. We slept downstairs with him on an air matress for 2 nights and then he was doing the stairs. He recovered very quickly from the surgery and was like new within two weeks. Norbert's entire bloat bill was about 7000 dollars. Thank goodness we have pet insurance which paid some of it. I am not sure how much the gastropexy cost but it was definitely a small portion. I am also sure you wont be paying NYC prices so it should be lower. I am sure it will go well!
