Mugsy

Happy Birthday Mugsy!

Wednesday, April the 18th, our Mugsy turned 18. I look at her with with awe most days as she goes about life as usual. She has good days and never complains about the bad days. I can look at her and tell if she is having a good day.  I guess there is something to be said about "good stock".  Mugsy sleeps on a heating pad most of the day until she decides it is time to go outside or ask for a snack. She greets me most mornings by dropping a tennis ball at my feet. I will roll it along the floor for her to fetch and she brings it back to me.  One time is enough for her these days.  I often recall there was a time that my arm would give out throwing the ball for her for what seemed an eternity. Most of Mugsy's life she ate what I cooked for my family supplemented by some dry kibble. She was also not exposed to all the different vaccines that most animal medical facilities want us to give our pets on an annual basis. I read about unnecessarily taxing the immune system with the many vaccines and decide against them. Granted many pets have been saved by these vaccines, however, many have also had severe reactions, tumors, and orthopedic problems.

When my little niece and I brought this little pup home in a baseball cap 18 years ago I had no idea how much love, joy, laughter and fun she would bring to our lives. Mugsy and I have been through some major life changes together and she will always be my special Mugsy.

I love you Mugsy!

Sunday Adventures in Napping

Betsy, mom and dad have decided not to take us to the park today.

Did you hear that? No Sunday afternoon park adventure.

What? No park time?

Sasha I guess we can nap while the humans watch a movie.

Hmmm, this is good afternoon.

This was our Sunday adventure.

We were happy to skip right over Monday to Tuesday.

Saturday Siberian Snow

Mom please show everyone what we did this afternoon.

We made a huge Siberian snowball!

I do feel a chill now that I am missing my undercoat!

Free!

We thought my E-collar would finally come off last Friday when I had my sutures removed.  The sutures were not removed until Monday afternoon.  I wore this E-collar for 13 days while my tail healed. 13 days was a long time for an active girl like me! Mom did take it off on our afternoon and weekend walks.

I even had to sleep in this collar.

Hooray my tail has healed!

Mom disposed of that terrible E-collar. I don't ever want to see it again!

Did You Say Hike?

One of the best activities that we enjoy with our furbabies is hiking. Just pull out one of the car harnesses and they  bounce around running to the front door ready to go! Late Easter Sunday afternoon we decided to load the jeep and head out for another hiking adventure.
The afternoon was beautiful and the water inviting! No swimming allowed - alligators may be present!

We took a quick break and watched a paddle boat go by.

Nina was ready for break time to be over!

We came across a huge red Malamute on the way to the jeep.  He was a big fellow and ever so friendly.  He was twice the size of Myshka and Sasha!

How many miles do you walk every week?

Don't You Love Monday Mornings?

I tried to tell Mom that Easter was over and this looks ridiculous!

Actually, this is as ridiculous as some Monday mornings!

Cat Games

China Girl never ceases to amaze us as she sneaks in front of the girls like they don't see her.  All eyes are upon her and the Siberians are just twitching with excitement.  China Girl does not give them the thrill of the chase.

We let China Girl think she is sneaking past us!

Excuse me, did someone say "cat"?

Happy Monday!

I am enjoying my Monday and dreaming about our fun weekend. Tomorrow I undergo surgery to fix my "happy tail". Mom says by Wednesday morning I will be feeling much better.

We walked so far that we had to take a break, drink some cold water, and enjoy the sunshine.

We took another break and dad pulled out the big snacks!

Hurry with those snacks!

Wouldn't it be great if weekends lasted all week!

Maybe it I try on my tippy toes.

I can almost taste it Phoebe!

Sometimes it just doesn't happen.

Not Again!

This morning I thought maybe if I closed my eyes and opened them again Monday would go away.

Guess what happened? It didn't work!

Family

We really enjoyed the March/April 2012 edition of the AKC Family Dog because of the articles "OUR DOGS give us SUCH PLEASURE" and BODY AND SOLE.  My favorite was of course "OUR DOGS give us SUCH PLEASURE".  I never read  much about General Custer other than the Battle of Little Bighorn so I was quite surprised to know that he and his wife, Libbie, were avid hound lovers. At one time his pack numbered approximately 80 dogs!  I can not imagine being responsible for 80 dogs in the mid 1800's. My first concern would be how am I going to feed them?  I would be lost without the petfood industry. What would you do during a medical emergency and what about vaccines?  General Custer and Libbie became experts with canine medical issues and sharing food.  Being childless, their dogs were their family and shared their home which often was a military tent.

I love my little pack as family and could not imagine life without them.  My home would not be complete without the girls.

You can read about General Custer and his wife Libbie's dogs here in the March/April 2012 issue of AKC Family Dog .

Enjoy your Sunday!
