Mugsy

Happy Birthday Mugsy!

Wednesday, April the 18th, our Mugsy turned 18. I look at her with with awe most days as she goes about life as usual. She has good days and never complains about the bad days. I can look at her and tell if she is having a good day.  I guess there is something to be said about "good stock".  Mugsy sleeps on a heating pad most of the day until she decides it is time to go outside or ask for a snack. She greets me most mornings by dropping a tennis ball at my feet. I will roll it along the floor for her to fetch and she brings it back to me.  One time is enough for her these days.  I often recall there was a time that my arm would give out throwing the ball for her for what seemed an eternity. Most of Mugsy's life she ate what I cooked for my family supplemented by some dry kibble. She was also not exposed to all the different vaccines that most animal medical facilities want us to give our pets on an annual basis. I read about unnecessarily taxing the immune system with the many vaccines and decide against them. Granted many pets have been saved by these vaccines, however, many have also had severe reactions, tumors, and orthopedic problems.

When my little niece and I brought this little pup home in a baseball cap 18 years ago I had no idea how much love, joy, laughter and fun she would bring to our lives. Mugsy and I have been through some major life changes together and she will always be my special Mugsy.

I love you Mugsy!

  2. hey Mugsy,

Happy 18th Birthday! What a pawsome milestone! You look absolutely adorable! I hope you had a lovely day and a special birthday treat!

My human agrees about too many vaccines. She understands why the rabies baccine is mandatory but feels that all the others should be optional. It can be too much, especially for little dogs. And, living in the country, we come across dogs living to ripe old ages who have never been, or only rarely been, to the Vets. So, there is something to be said about too much meds!

Your human wrote a very sweet birthday tribute post! Here is to another wonderful year of life!

  4. Super Happy 18th Birthday Mugsy! Wow! She must be good stock! How sweet that she still brings a ball and drops it at your feet. She must have been a tiny puppy coming home in a baseball cap! What a great memory! She is still so beautiful! :)

  6. How wonderful! I am looking at Mugsy as my big inspiration. I too am wary of over vacinating but Im a bit of a conundrum as I live in an urban area. I do core vacines as puppies and then titer test after that

Yeah.... When My BEAUTIFULLY UNIQUE "blond"-furred German Shepherd/Golden Retriever cross, Shadow was nearing the end of her life, there were physical struggles, but she never, ever, ever, ever complained, either!! ;op

  14. Yay Mugsy! Happy birthday. What you say about vaccines and people food is so interesting. I think a lot of our dogs could benefit from such a strategy!
