Soul Sisters

Even though we are not blood sisters, we are best friends from the heart and sisters from the soul.

Betsy - Then and Now

Betsy crossed my path on July 21, 2011.  She ran in front of my car as I traveled 55MPH down a rural road.  The only thing I remember is saying OMG and jerking the steering wheel to the left.  After nearly rolling my car, I saw her fading away in my review mirror.  Her face haunted me all the way to the office. The high temperature for the day was supposed to be a 100 degrees with a heat index of 105  to 110 degrees.  A co- worker, also an animal lover, rode back down the road to help me find this dog to give it water and food.  The dog hid in the thick underbrush back from the road and we could hear the scared growl warning us to go away.  We left the food and water nearby.  Once we were back in the car, the dog came out and gobbled the food. It looked young, scared, and starved. That little face haunted me all day.

That evening I went home to get dog food and fresh water to take to the little dog. I also wanted Jim to go with me because I knew he could handle anything or problem that might happen beside the road. We approached the location where I last saw the dog and saw a parked car. This kind, caring soul was leaving food for  the dog. I was informed that others had been leaving food and that animal control was called earlier in the week but had not picked up the dog.

The dog came out of the underbrush and ate the food in front of me. I saw that it was a little young female.  I looked at Jim and said that I could not leave her beside road.  I knew that she would be hit by a car.  I promised to get her to a rescue group first thing the next morning.

To make a long story short, no one had room to take in another dog.  I think from that point I was relieved because she had touched my heart.  Our vet said she was 4 to 5 months old and appeared to be healthy even though she was underweight. How she survived on her own I do not know.  Because of where she was found living, it was obvious someone had abandoned her.

I am thankful her path crossed mine and she joined our little family. We named her Betsy in memory of Jim's beagle from many years ago.  Betsy is loving and so intelligent.  She has adjusted to our family and life just fine!  She's a real trooper!

Betsy then - morning after we brought her home - July 22, 2011.

Siberian Snow

Look! It snowed at our house last night.

Siberian Snow!

Mom says this is not all, the other half is in the carpet, under the table, and in every corner of every room in the house.

Party in the Park

Our best friends jumped in their convertible, latched their seat-belts, put on their doggles and met us at the park.

The day was hot, humid, and sunny.  We walked, visited, and took many water breaks.  We looked tired as we loaded the jeep to go home. We can't wait to get in the air conditioning.

Some of us crashed when we arrived at the house! Mom and Dad say park adventures give them a quiet evening.

Holidays bring late night walks at our house.  Lets go!

We feel safe in the yard during our midnight walk because the porch is close if we need to run to the door.

The glowing eyes in the dark make us quickly turn around and run to the house.

Mom said it was deer but we took her back to the house so she would be safe.

Day Trips

We are ready for another day trip.

Our day trips cover many different routes and interesting scenery.  The marsh of dead trees is one of our favorites.

We dream of fall when we see and smell fresh rolled hay.

When the smell of pluff mudd floats through the window with the sight of tidal creeks, we know our trip is over.

Home is around the corner where we see one of our neighbors.  Isn't he a handsome fellow?
